Codes and standards differ between countries, states and provinces, and they change over time. Where an article refers to the NEC, the Canadian Electrical Code, BS 7671 or IEC standards, check the edition adopted in your area and the requirements of your local authority or inspector.

Calculators

Our calculators use standard formulas and published data, and they show their working so you can check it. Results are estimates that depend entirely on the inputs and assumptions used. They are intended for learning, planning and checking, not as the sole basis for a design. Final designs should be verified against the applicable code, manufacturer data and, where required, a qualified engineer.
